Modern Mountain Retreats

We're in Asheville, NC for a little getaway, so I'm sharing some mountain retreat inspiration today!

Happy weekend to you all! We are currently in Asheville, NC for a little mountain getaway. I love the feeling of being in the mountains, and also I love modern mountain cabin homes. So, today I’m sharing a little bit of mountain retreat inspiration!

This first home is the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York, designed by Corpus Studio. I love the overall earthy modern feeling – the rough wood paneling, concrete flooring and blackened steel pair with pops of brass and earthy tones to add sparkle and warmth. Also, check out the showstopper tree-inspired fireplace!

This second spot is situated high above the town of Jackson, Wyoming in the snow-capped mountains of Grand Teton National Park. The palette of tactile stone, natural timber, organic plaster and sleek glass sets an earthy yet sophisticated vibe. Locally-collected pebbles line some of the the floors while indigenous Fir and Hemlock serve as ceiling timbers and wall paneling. They imported wide plank Danish flooring in Douglas Fir and slim-framed Swiss glass walls, doors and windows. The overall mix between a classic American cabin and a modern European chalet is warm yet cool!

The next home by YH2 architects is in the foothills of Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains and just a stone’s throw from the Lac Plaisant shore. Outside a seamless skin of white cedar renders beautifully among its wooded surroundings and a huge wall of glass opens the home to the scenic surrounds.  I love the peacefulness of all the green with a pop of modern white in the middle. This lakeside retreat nails the essence of understated cottage living at its modern-day best!

Next up along the Eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains is a expansive vacation lodge by SPACES design. It has a bright, contemporary look that balances interior beauty and comfort with the picturesque views outside. I love the fresh white subway tiles, light wood cabinets, and industrial style lighting and especially the mix of the gold fixtures with that completely gorgeous custom brass island!

Last but not least, from the snowy ski slopes of Norway is the Split View Mountain Lodge by Reiulf Ramstad Architects. True to its β€œSplit View” name, the lodge’s unique structure was built to work with the site’s sloping terrain and scenic landscape. Adjacent to a small, free-standing guest house, the family’s private quarters are housed in the main wing which then feeds into a central kitchen before bifurcating into the two main living zones β€” one for dining and the other for reclining. Adding interest and cozy to the minimal interiors are the spectacular views and three cozy fireplaces!
