I’m so excited to share with you our very first Artist Feature today! Today I have 5 questions for Susan Carter Hall. This one is special to me because Susan was a big part of my life when I lived in LA. We met through another mutual friend who grew up with Susan in Mississippi, and she took me under her wing when I moved to California and introduced me to a bunch of people and places. This was in 2007 and at the time, she was starting to pursue her art as a full-time career. Fast forward just over 10 years later, and she has done so many amazing things since then. Her work blows me away and it has really been fun to follow her career and see the progression.

5 Questions for Susan Carter Hall
1. What is your favorite kind of work to do at the moment?
I have been working on large scale paintings made up of grids (multiple canvases used to make one large piece) the last couple years. They are quite time consuming because I like to really build up the paint on them. When I want to do something a bit more spontaneous, I enjoy working with paper and mixed media.

2. What kinds of things inspire you?
The outdoors, other artists, film, fashion, architecture, the olympics…anything and everything.
3. Who else do you admire in the art space?
I admire anyone who shows up and makes time for the muse.

4. Coolest possession?
My grandmothers sketchbooks from her travels around the world.

5. Favorite quote or words to live by?
“Do something, do something to that, and then do something to that.” — Jasper Johns
