A couple of you asked for some recommendations for 4th of July parties, and you know I’m never upset about pulling a list of wines together! Below are some fun All-American choices for the upcoming holiday. Most are wallet-friendly, and all are party-approved!
Chandon Limited Edition Brut, Summer 2018
$26
Each year Chandon designs a themed bottle for summer. This year’s version is called “Sun’s Out, Squad’s Out” as their toast to American Summer. Such a fun bottle and with a great, accessible sparkling wine inside! (Note, Domaine Chandon is one of my favorite wineries to visit as well, and on my top Napa Wineries list here.)
The Federalist Chardonnay 2016
$16
The Federalist’s line of bottles feature everyone from George Washington to Alexander Hamilton, and this Chardonnay gets the lovely Lady Liberty! This is an oaked, golden Chardonnay with big fruit and flavor bright acidity. This will hold up well to some good party food.
One Hope Red Blend 2016
$20
This One Hope Red Blend has flavors of orange zest, clove, allspice, bittersweet chocolate and ripe blackberry compote. This is a light to medium wine, and would be perfect with a burger! Best of all—purchasing this wine supports veterans.
Secret Indulgence American Vintage Red Blend 2015
$40
This blend is 65% Zinfandel and 35% Petite Sirah and the color sure tells the same story! It’s bold and jammy and a deep garnet-purple in color, with loads of juicy red and blue fruits (how much more American can you get than that?) The fruit is balanced with some nice spice and a long finish. This would be great with any type of grilled foods like some American BBQ.

Charles & Charles Rose 2017
$14
How perfect is this bottle for the fourth?! Charles & Charles, by winemaker Charles Smith, has several other varietals, as well, with similar graphics. This rosé has a beautiful salmon color and is fruity, light and refreshing with a tangy finish!

Broadbent 10 Year Sercial Madeira
$48
People think of Madeira as sweet, but the version made from the Sercial grape is dry and nutty, with citrus notes. Open a chilled bottle on the 4th — after all, Madeira is the wine that was used by the Founding Father’s to toast the Declaration of Independence! It was also used to Toast the Constitution and George Washington drank a pint of Madeira every day for dinner.
