Hello, friends…I hope you have all had a great week! I know we finally hit the first days of fall and the east coast is going crazy for pumpkin-everything, but I am writing this from Newport Beach, California where I have spent the last dew days on a girls trip – and it definitely still feels like summer! I’ll share more details from our trip later this week!
For now, here’s this Sunday’s seven in wine, food, style, design and travel:
Space Champagne. Obviously.
Mumm has spent years developing the world’s first zero-gravity champagne specifically made to be consumed..in space. With a revolutionary new bottle and glass concept, the new bottles dispense champagne as foam, and space drinkers must catch it in their glasses. So if any of you are headed into space anytime soon, this is for you.
8 Surprising Foods That Can Cause Bad Breath
It’s no secret that garlic and onions can lead to some pretty gnarly bad breath—but if you avoid these foods and your breath still stinks, it’s time to dig deeper into the sneaky saboteurs that could be causing it. A look into 8 foods — citrus, protein, canned fish, cheese, pasta sauce, peanut butter, horseradish, and coffee — and why they are culprits.
The Ultimate Birthday Cake Recipe.
Real Simple swears by this birthday cake recipe…and I’l be honest, I love a classic yellow cake, so I’m intrigued. This cake is slightly reminiscent of boxed cakes you remember, but with better flavor and structure. Lots of birthday cake recipes start with a foundation of room temperature butter, but instead this one uses a combination of vegetable oil (for tenderness) and melted butter (for flavor) for a light, moist crumbly base. It finishes up with chocolate ganache.
Names You Can Trust in Wine.
For great wines at any price, look to these seven great wine families. This takes a look inside the offerings at from Antinori, CVNE, Maison Joseph Drouhin, E. Guigal, Yalumba, Jackson Family Wines, and Louis Roderer – and recommends bargain, upgrade, and splurge bottle purchases from each!
3 Tips to Have Better Conversations
Know the three tiers of conversations. First, safe territory: sports, the weather, etc. Second, potentially controversial: religion, politics, dating and love lives. And third,
intimate topics: family, finance, health and work life. Also, be interested, and don’t be a conversation hog!
The West Coast Fires And The Taste of That Wine
Last year, more than 11 California wineries were irreparably damaged or destroyed, and many others affected by the west coast wildfires. This year, while outright damage has been more limited, a significant threat of smoke taint still hangs in the air. When wine grapes are exposed to smoke for a prolonged period of time, the fruits can absorb smoky compounds through their skins, ultimately leading to off flavors that can taste, well, like a cigarette butt. More about the issue many West Coast wineries are rightly concerned about…
Turks & Caicos Modern Mansion, Anyone?
Before you leave your tropical summer dreams behind, check out this new villa in Turks & Caicos. Beautifully decorated, infinity pools, and how about that floating sundeck with two-person loungers and water access? This villa is located in Turtle Tail, which is the area in which we recently stayed on our trip to Providenciales earlier this year. You can buy this one for a cool $4.7m, but I linked our rental villa, which we loved, in this earlier post.) It’s much more affordable 😁
I hope everyone has a wonderful and relaxing rest of your weekend!
