I have had a few requests for this and thought I’d share some photos of our home today. We had moved from California to Charlotte about 8 years ago and we were looking for something to buy that could match the style of the architecture we liked in California. We wanted a large, one-story ranch that was modern. Modern wasn’t popular at the time so there wasn’t anything on the market fitting the bill. Also, ranches with any good size to them were hard to find. We looked for something to buy for a really long time until coming across this house. It had the right bones but boy did it need a lot of work – it had been uninhabited for over ten years and was being sold “as-is”. It was actually in such bad condition that the bank would not declare it liveable and therefore would not give us a loan until we made some improvements! We did four months of full-on renovations while not living in the house – kind of the bare minimum needed to get in. Then we continued the renovations while living there. We did a lot of the work ourselves with my Dad’s help. All in all it truthfully took a couple of years and there are still small things we are doing – they say you are never really finished with a house, right?! It was definitely a labor of love but completely worth it in the end as were able to create exactly what we wanted!
